Engineered Water Flow for Healthy, High-Quality Shellfish
One of the defining features of the Crab Pod is its carefully designed water flow. Water enters the main shellfish section from the filtration system and is distributed evenly through the overhead spray bar. This ensures a steady curtain of clean seawater across the entire tank surface.
In addition to the spray bar, the system introduces water and aeration through the channels running along the base of the tank. The tank is fitted with either two air and water channels as standard or you can add an extra two —double the standard configuration if you are holding tubes of langoustine or more sensitive catch such as sea urchins. Additional air and water channels support higher stocking densities and more consistent oxygenation throughout the tank.
Consistent Circulation with No Dead Spots
Once water passes through the spray bar and percolates down through the shellfish, it travels the full length of the tank and returns to the filtration system via a perforated baffle. Side channels guide the return flow, ensuring constant movement throughout the entire footprint of the tank.
This deliberate circulation pattern prevents dead spots where oxygen might otherwise drop. Maintaining even oxygen levels is essential for animal welfare, stress reduction and the quality of your catch. This predictable and controlled flow is one of the key advantages of the Crab Pod system.
