Introduction: Clarity on Our Filtration Systems
At Todd Fish Tech, we take water quality seriously. It’s fundamental to the health, quality and market value of shellfish. That’s why every shellfish holding system we manufacture includes a protein skimmer as standard.
What a Protein Skimmer Does
A protein skimmer is a vital component in maintaining clean, stable water. It works by injecting fine air bubbles into a chamber, which attract and bind with organic waste in the water — the same material that forms the brown spume you see along the beach on a windy day.
As these bubbles rise, they carry the waste into a collection cup at the top of the skimmer. The result is clearer, cleaner water with reduced organic load — a critical factor in preventing ammonia build-up in any recirculating system.
How It Works in Our Systems
Underneath the skimmer chamber in every Crab Pod and Lobster Pod there’s a wooden air diffuser producing ultra-fine bubbles. These bubbles lift the organic waste into a central column where it accumulates as foam. The waste then collects in a removable chamber that can be easily emptied or drained via a hose attachment.
This system continuously removes waste from the water, improving oxygen levels and reducing the demand on biological filtration. It’s simple, reliable and highly effective.
Designed for Professional Performance
We design and build our shellfish holding systems for commercial users — fishermen, fish merchants and fishmongers. The inclusion of a protein skimmer isn’t an optional extra or upgrade. It’s an essential part of our commitment to quality engineering and responsible shellfish care.
Our systems are developed, tested and refined in real-world environments to ensure they meet the demanding standards of the seafood industry.
