How the Electrical System Is Organised
The Crab Pod uses a straightforward single‑phase electrical setup designed for reliability in commercial shellfish operations. All components are arranged to allow easy access, simple maintenance, and clear control over each part of the system.
Switch Blocks and Component Control
Each Crab Pod includes two separate switch blocks. One controls the recirculation pump and the UV steriliser. The second controls the air pumps. This separation allows individual components to be switched on or off without interrupting the rest of the system which is particularly useful during maintenance or troubleshooting.
Air Pumps and Their Functions
The system uses three dedicated air pumps. One powers the protein skimmer, one drives the moving bed biofilter, and one supplies air to the aeration channels in the main tank. This ensures stable oxygenation and filtration across all stages of the system supporting high‑density storage of crab, lobster, or langoustine.
Fuse Protection and Indicators
Each switch block contains its own fuses which can be accessed by lifting the cover and unscrewing them from the rear. Indicator lights show when a component is powered and when a fuse has blown. This makes it easy to identify issues quickly and maintain uninterrupted operation.
Power Requirements and Socket Types
All components run on single‑phase power. The switch blocks require standard outdoor waterproof sockets with normal plugs. The chiller uses a commando‑style socket that plugs directly into the wall. No three‑phase power is required, keeping installation simple and compatible with most commercial premises. Different plugs or voltage can be incorporated in our shellfish systems for export to other countries.
Why This Matters for Export‑Scale Shellfish Operations
The Crab Pod is built for shellfish merchants or fishermen who need dependable, energy‑efficient storage for crab, lobster, or langoustine. A clean, robust electrical layout reduces downtime, simplifies servicing, and ensures stable conditions for shellfish destined for high‑value markets in the UK, Europe and the Far East. Combined with the award‑winning filtration technology adapted from the Lobster Pod the system delivers consistent, export‑grade quality.
Supporting Growth in Live Shellfish Markets
Whether you operate a coastal processing site or are in an industrial estate inland the Crab Pod provides the reliability and control needed to expand into premium live‑shellfish markets. Its electrical system is engineered to be practical, durable, and easy to manage, even in demanding environments.
