Why the Crab Pod is ideal for langoustine
Although we call it our Crab Pod this large shellfish holding tank is also an excellent system for holding langoustine.
When we designed the Crab Pod we included several features specifically to make it suitable for holding langoustine in tubes. One of these is the network of air and water channels built into the base of the tank. Rather than simply allowing water to cascade across the surface these channels distribute filtered water and oxygen throughout the entire tank helping to eliminate dead spots where water movement is poor.
An added benefit is that the channels provide the perfect support for langoustine tubes keeping them level and raised off the base of the tank.
Even water flow throughout the tank
The Crab Pod also includes additional spray bars which ensure every langoustine tube receives a constant supply of clean, filtered water.
Maintaining good water circulation throughout the system helps create a stable environment and keeps the langoustines healthy during storage.
Holding langoustine in a Lobster Pod
Langoustine can also be held loose in the trays of our Lobster Pod stacking system. We’ve successfully held langoustine this way for several months.
For longer-term storage I would recommend removing the langoustine from the tubes. It is much easier to monitor their condition and prolonged storage in tubes can sometimes lead to tail damage.
Another advantage of the Lobster Pod is its flexibility. If you only have a small quantity of langoustine or crabs they can be held alongside lobsters in the same system making it a practical solution for many fish merchants and wholesalers.

We’ve helped many customers successfully hold langoustine over the years. Depending on where you are in the world they may also be known as Norway lobster, Nephrops, or simply prawns.
