From Academic Research to Marine Biology Expertise
Dr Keith Todd studied Fisheries Science and Oceanography at Plymouth University before completing a PhD in Marine Biology at Stirling University. His academic journey built a strong foundation in understanding marine ecosystems and the science behind keeping aquatic life healthy.
Early Career in Public Aquariums
After university, Keith entered the world of public aquariums. He worked as Technical Manager at Exploris in Northern Ireland and later became Curator at Deep Sea World in Edinburgh. These roles gave him invaluable experience in managing marine life and maintaining complex aquatic environments.
The Move into Shellfish Holding Systems
In 1998, Keith left the aquarium world to set up a business supplying livestock and equipment to aquariums and universities across the UK. During this time, he was approached by fishermen who needed ways to safely store live shellfish. This was the beginning of his journey into designing and building shellfish holding systems, combining his knowledge of marine biology with hands-on engineering.
Innovation and R&D at Todd Fish Tech
Today, Keith is the R&D Director at Todd Fish Tech. He is the inventor of the award-winning Lobster Pod system and continues to design and refine new systems. His work includes developing more energy-efficient filtration, creating bespoke solutions for labs and hatcheries, and tailoring systems for specific marine species.
A Passion for Problem Solving
Keith’s favourite part of his work is problem solving. Whether it’s designing a system for a species never held before, or engineering a more efficient way of storing shellfish, he thrives on the challenge. His unique ability to merge engineering with marine biology is what makes Todd Fish Tech’s systems stand out.
