Oyster Pod
The Oyster Pod is a vertical stacking bivalve purification system designed for oysters, clams, cockles and razor clams. Manufactured by Todd Fish Tech, the system is built to the Seafish Industry Authority design standard and is recognised for its reliability, efficiency and high‑quality construction. With a history of producing specialist shellfish purification systems since 1998, Todd Fish Tech has established itself as the UK’s leading provider in this field.
System Design and Components
The Oyster Pod uses a multi‑tray vertical configuration, allowing large volumes of shellfish to be purified within a compact footprint. Each system can be manufactured in a range of sizes, from 6 trays up to 48 trays, with bespoke variations available for sites with restricted height or specific operational requirements.
A key feature of the system is its ultraviolet sterilisation unit. Larger configurations include two UV sterilisers to ensure consistent water disinfection. Each UV bulb has an approximate lifespan of 4000 hours and an integrated hour‑run meter enables straightforward monitoring and timely replacement.
The recirculation pump draws water from the sump, passes it through the UV steriliser and distributes it to the top of the stack. Water then flows through the trays in a controlled zig‑zag pattern, alternating between front and back outlets to ensure even purification across all levels. Each tray can be drained individually and a flow meter is included to verify that each stack receives the correct flow rate.
Capacity and Configuration Options
The largest standard Oyster Pod configuration includes six stacks of eight trays providing a total of 48 trays. The system stands just over 2.3 metres high offering significant purification capacity while maintaining a compact footprint. Smaller systems, including 6 and 7 tray heights can be produced for customers with limited ceiling height. Multi‑stack configurations such as 16‑tray or 24‑tray systems are also available.
Quality and Compliance
All Oyster Pod systems are manufactured to meet or exceed the Seafish Industry Authority standard. High‑grade materials are used throughout to ensure durability, hygiene and long‑term performance. Todd Fish Tech’s extensive experience enables customers to receive support throughout challenge testing, regulatory compliance and system optimisation.
Customer Support and Training
Each system is supplied with comprehensive operational guidance including manuals and optional online or telephone training. Todd Fish Tech also assists customers in understanding the permissions and regulatory steps required to commission and operate a purification system. Export customers can request bespoke modifications to meet local requirements.
Global Delivery
The Oyster Pod is supplied as a turn‑key solution and shipped securely via pallet courier throughout the UK with worldwide shipping available. Systems arrive ready for installation enabling rapid setup and integration into existing operations.
Suitability for Different Species
The Oyster Pod is suitable for a wide range of bivalves, including oysters, clams, cockles and razor clams. Mussels, however, are not recommended for use in the stacking trays due to their tendency to climb out during purification. Todd Fish Tech also provides specialist tank‑based systems.
Conclusion
The Oyster Pod vertical stacking purification system combines robust engineering, efficient water treatment and flexible configuration options. Built to industry standards and supported by decades of expertise it offers a reliable and scalable solution for shellfish purification operations in the UK and worldwide.
