Seafish interviewed Errin as part of International Women’s Day in March and the industry paper featured the article to attract more women into the seafood industry. The women featured included CJ Jackson (CEO of Billingsgate Seafood School), Susan Ord (Award winning Fish and Chip Shop Owner), Hazel Bennet (Training Manager at Western Training School), Katie Miller (Sustainable Seafood Coalition Coordinator at Client Earth), Anne-Margaret Anderson (Policy Co-ordinator for The Scottish White Fish Producers Association), Jenny Price (Maker of Lobster Pots), Dr Vera O’Donovan (Fisheries Development Officer, BIM) and Hazel Curtis (Economist, Seafish).

Fishing News wrote about these, “nine successful women who are leading the way and shaping the future of the industry.  Each of these women are exceptionally passionate about their work, pushing the industry forward and blazing a trail for more women to follow their path.”  Mel Groundsell, Corporate Relation Director at Seafish, said, “We’re thrilled to celebrate the women driving innovation and positive change in all corners of the seafood industry.  The commitment, drive and passion displayed by his remarkable group should make us all proud.”

In the interview Errin mentions her admiration for other women working in seafood including Lobster Pod Research and Development Assistant, Laura Johnson

and Claire Pescod (MSC), Sharon Boyle (Skipper Expo), Pamela Houston, (Kilkeel Developement Association and founder of Seascope NI Lobster Hatchery) and Jane Grant of Scothatch.  Most of all Errin has praise for the countless women working behind the scenes helping local community groups and their family businesses.

Errin believes a career working in seafood is suitable for anyone with an interest in science, food, engineering or the outdoors.  She loves her job especially speaking with the customers and working on developing new technology to provide practical solutions to help solve real problems faced by the fishing industry.
