Todd Fish Customer says his water is clean, clear and smells of the sea thanks to new Filter.

Our new design Triple Filter is easy to use and clean and the most efficient filter ever.

Our new Triple Filter is made from fibreglass (GRP) and insulated.  The fibreglass gives a smooth internal finish.  This helps the water to flow well and there are no nooks and crannies for dirt to hide.  The insulation ensures minimum heat gain of your seawater whilst it is being filtered.  This keeps the cost of chilling the water down.

The mechanical filter removes any particles such as waste, sand or shell.  The Todd Fish filter uses sponges to trap the dirt and a filter bag to remove particles down to 50 microns i.e. very, very small.  The pipe through the centre of the sponges will overflow if the filter needs cleaned.  This is a clear visual sign and prevents the water flow slowing down or worse, stopping.  In older style filters e.g. sand filters if they need cleaned they can stop the water flow and more importantly the oxygen getting into your tank leading to overnight wipe-outs of stock.

The biological filter consists of a Moving Bed Bio-reactor, Charcoal Filter, Ultraviolet Sterilizer and Ceramic Filter Blocks.  The biological filter processes the ammonia into nitrite and then less harmful nitrate before being further changed into nitrogen and oxygen.  The UV denatures the bad bacteria.  For more information on our cutting-edge biological filter and tips do help you manage the ammonia cycle for the benefit of the shellfish see here:  http://www.toddfish.co.uk/todds-top-tips-for-ammonia/

The Protein Skimmer is the final section of the filter before the water returns to your tank. This removes any oily scum from the water like the waves on a windy day.  You can see the foam collect in a cup at the top.  When the shellfish purge in the first 48 hours after being put in the tank the protein skimmer will help deal with the waste and keep the water clear.  If the protein skimmer is unusually foamy it is an indication of problems within your system e.g. mortalities or over-loading.

The filter is in one unit and compact taking up less valuable floor space.  If the filter needs cleaned there are clear visual signs (water overflowing sponges or the cup of the protein skimmer is full).  The parts can be cleaned in a normal size sink.  We use energy efficient pumps and natural forces e.g. gravity and centripetal force where possible to limit energy use.

A customer who has had a 250Kg capacity lobster tank with the Triple Filter since last Easter said that he had only had a handful of mortalities all year. He sells the full 250Kg per week.  He says his water is clean, clear and smells like the sea.  This means minimum water changes and peace of mind that his stock is healthy and system is operating effectively due to the new filter.  Happy customer, happy lobsters!
