The Same Story Time and Time Again
Over the years, I’ve had many conversations with people across the shellfish industry who initially decided to go with a cheaper system. Fishermen, fish merchants, bivalve farmers, fishmongers and hospitality businesses often come back to us a few years later saying exactly the same thing: “We wish we’d bought your system in the first place.”
I never take pleasure in hearing that someone has had a frustrating experience. There is room for everyone in this industry and we respect our competitors. Our focus has always been on building the very best shellfish systems we can and supporting our customers properly from catch to plate.
At Todd Fish Tech, we have been manufacturing shellfish systems since 1998. We are not the cheapest option on the market but there are very good reasons for that.
Quality Components Are Not Cheap
A shellfish system is only as good as the materials and engineering behind it.
We use commercial-grade ABS pipework rather than lower-cost alternatives because durability matters in demanding commercial environments. Our systems are designed for long-term reliability, energy efficiency and optimum shellfish welfare.
Every system is fully turnkey and includes the equipment customers actually need to operate properly from day one. That includes seawater chillers, advanced filtration and purification components that are often excluded elsewhere and sold as expensive extras later.
When people compare prices, they are not always comparing like for like.
Designed by Experts Who Understand Shellfish
Our systems are not designed by general fabricators. They are developed by people who genuinely understand shellfish health, water quality and commercial operations.
My husband, Dr Keith Todd, holds a PhD in marine biology and has spent decades specialising in shellfish systems and aquatic environments. Together with our engineers we have developed innovative filtration systems designed to create stable, healthy conditions while remaining practical and straightforward to use.
That expertise matters when your livelihood depends on healthy stock and reliable systems.
The Cost of Proper Aftercare
One thing many people do not consider when comparing prices is aftercare.
Supporting customers properly takes time, experience and investment. We provide setup guidance, training, instructional support, water testing and ongoing technical help long after installation.
When customers ring us with an issue they speak to someone with decades of experience who understands shellfish systems and can usually solve problems quickly. We do not disappear after the sale or leave customers trying to figure things out alone.
That level of support is built into the price of our systems because we believe customers deserve it.
Built for the Entire Shellfish Supply Chain
Our customers span the entire shellfish supply chain from catch to plate.
We work with fishermen holding their own catch, fish merchants handling live product, bivalve farmers operating purification systems, fishmongers showcasing premium shellfish and hospitality businesses requiring dependable live holding systems.
Each business depends on consistency, reliability and stock quality. Cutting corners on systems can become very expensive very quickly.
Buy Once, Buy Properly
Cheaper systems can appear attractive initially especially when budgets are tight. But replacing equipment, upgrading filtration, dealing with stock losses and chasing support often ends up costing significantly more over time.
That is why so many people eventually come back to us.
They realise they are not simply buying a tank. They are investing in decades of expertise, quality engineering, reliable support and peace of mind.
As the saying goes, buy cheap, buy twice.
